10 Days of Fashion in the City

Our annual celebration of retail and fashion returns in February. 10 Days of Fashion in the City takes place from 26 February until 6 March, with more than 100 offers and events including New Zealand’s Longest Catwalk and The Fashion Sessions giving customers even more reasons to come into the city to shop and spend time. 

A number of the events are planned to take place in the city’s public spaces and streets. Road closures are proposed for 'Thursdays on O’Connell' in O’Connell Street on Thursday 3 March and New Zealand’s Longest Catwalk in Queen Street on Saturday 5 March. We would like to make sure you are aware of these events and that you have the chance to ask any questions or share any feedback.

Thursdays on O’Connell: Vintage Fashion Edition

O’Connell Street, Thurs 3 Mar, 6 – 9pm, road closed to vehicle traffic 4pm – 10pm

O’Connell Street hospitality and retail businesses have come together again for a ‘Thursdays on O’Connell: Vintage Fashion Edition’. The event will include a fashion show featuring outfits from Strangely Normal, Hudson and High Street neighbours Tango, burlesque dancers as well as dining and retail specials .

The proposed Road closure applies to O’Connell Street between Freyberg Place and Shortland Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the event and loading on O’Connell Street will be business as usual prior to 11.00am. A vehicle detour will be in place during the event. The organisers will collect rubbish bags for the evening collection and placed them at either end of O’Connell Street.

Man Friday

High Street District (various venues), Fri 4 Mar, 7.30am - 7pm

The High Street District is celebrating men’s fashion with on-street and in-store activations and offers across the day. Activities in public spaces include a ‘Dapper Bike Ride’ ending in Freyberg Square at breakfast time, a shoe-shine parklet near the High St/Shortland St corner and a shaving installation outside Bespoke Barber.

New Zealand’s Longest Catwalk
Queen Street, Sat 5 Mar, 12 – 1.30pm (rain date Sun 6 Mar), road closed to traffic between Wyndham and Shortland Streets, 8am – 4pm

The city’s catwalk show of grand proportions returns to Queen Street, showing current fashion looks from city centre retailers on a 125m+ long catwalk down the centre of the street.

Proposed road closure applies to Queen Street between Wyndham and Shortland Streets, with lane changes in effect on Wyndham and Shortland Streets and on either side of the closure zone on Queen Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained and encouraged on the footpaths on both sides of the street.

Re-fashioned on Freyberg

Freyberg Square, Sat 5 Mar, 2 – 5.30pm

A celebration of sustainable style in Freyberg Square with local retailers, fashion illustration, free tastings of custom tea blends and music from DJ Charlotte Red and Chris Melville.
