Art Week returns to the city centre in October

News story
Friday 5 Jul 2013

Auckland’s annual celebration of contemporary arts and galleries returns to the city from 11 – 20 October. Beyond the gallery exhibitions and events that form the mainstay of Art Week, Heart of the City delivers a range of activations designed to encourage arts visitation to the city centre and drive business to surrounding retailers and hospitality providers.

The activities we have planned so far include a series of free guided walks that will take Aucklanders behind closed doors to see some of the city’s corporate art collections as well as through the streets of the city taking in the many pieces of art in public spaces. There will be an exhibition showing a selection of the best images of Auckland’s central city submitted as part of the #loveyourcityblc campaign that’s currently underway. We’re also working with the regional Art Week organizers to deliver a Late Night Art event in which galleries will be open late, and there will be creative activations through the city – think markets, projection art and cycle and walking art tours.

There are also opportunities for HOTCity members to get involved. If you’re in hospitality, you might want to create a special dish or event as part of Art Week. if you’re a retailer, you might have an amazing piece of art in store that you’d like to tell everyone about, or you might have a product range that has a particular arts focus. We’ll be promoting Art Week and all of its activities with a substantial integrated campaign, so we can help you leverage your involvement through our many channels. If you’d like to discuss ways that your business could participate in Art Week, please get in touch, we’d love to talk to you.
