Safety in the City over Summer

There are a number of initiatives underway this summer that aim to ensure the city centre is a safe and enjoyable place to be for business and for visitors.

Operation Guardian:  Being carried out this December, following a successful operation last year, this focuses on property crime offending in the city centre, with police actively targeting property crime suspects and offenders with a range of tactics to reduce property crime occurring. This supplements the effective StoreWatch retail crime prevention initiative that runs in the city.

General Public Nuisance: The CityWatch team, co-funded by Heart of the City and Auckland Council have increased resource over the summer to focus on managing anti-social behaviour in public spaces, including any begging being carried out in an aggressive way as well as window washing. Have something to report? Businesses can report anti-social behaviour to Council for response by the CityWatch team on 09 301 0101. Read more here.
