Street Art at 33 High street

News story
Tuesday 10 Sep 2013

A lively new artwork has brought spring colour to a High St demolition site. A mural by highly acclaimed New Zealand artist Martin Poppelwell uses distinctive images of trees that will change with the seasons to bring colour to the streetscape. The changing artwork will allow Martin to add elements such as blossoms, fruits, bird nests and leaves to reflect and communicate messages of change, growth and the blossoming of a new and upcoming era for High St.

The site at 33 High Street has been a host to legendary bars that defined the rich history of the street’s nightlife throughout the 80s and 90s. The Box and Cause Celebre hosted numerous musical luminaries including one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Eric Clapton.

A time lapse video showing Martin installing the mural is on our website here.
