The latest plans for a Waitematā Harbour crossing for people on foot and bikes entail a new standalone bridge structure directly to the east/city side of the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

Transport Minister Michael Wood announced the plans, expected to be realised within five years, in June 2021. The bridge will form part of the Northern Pathway, which will extend cycling and walking access through to the North Shore's Esmonde Rd and provide connections to Northcote and Takapuna.
