The build is on for America’s Cup 36

News story
Thursday 1 Nov 2018

Work has begun in Wynyard Quarter for the bases and viewing facilities needed to host the 36th America’s Cup in 2021, with the race syndicates due to arrive in Auckland in late 2019 to start their preparations. Find out more here about who is delivering the project and how the community is being involved to best manage impacts and maximise opportunities.

Construction update

  • Underway now
    • Repair works under Wynyard Wharf
    • Demolition of the Stolthaven tanks - 90% complete - pipes to be demolished by end Nov
  • December
    • WEA site mobilisation and construction to begin
  • Early 2019
    • Wynyard Wharf repair works to continue from a barge

The Wynyard Edge Alliance (WEA) are taking a very collaborative approach to working with stakeholders in an effort to deliver a great experience during construction and during the event itself.

An example of this includes extending an invitation to Community Liaison Group (CLG) members to participate in the project’s construction pre-start meeting - giving full visibility to planned construction methodology and timeframes. We’re really pleased to see this approach - a good demonstration of the value of collaboration and openness in minimising the impact for all - understanding and information is key here.

If you’d like to know more about the CLG, or are a business in the area of the works/event and want to know more, please get in touch here.
