Fashion and retail at the fore for NZ Fashion Week

News story
Thursday 25 Jul 2019

Fashion will be at the fore in the city centre when NZ Fashion Week returns to the Town Hall at the end of August, almost two decades after its debut there.

Aotea Quarter will be abuzz with the well dressed attendees of the four-day trade show and public NZ Fashion Weekend - including a Fashion in the Heart of the City show featuring spring/summer looks to be found in city centre stores.

The fashionable festivities will extend beyond the runway with tours, a clothes swap, street style photographers, photo projections and a Maori fashion hub at Ellen Melville Centre complete with korero, workshops and shows. These activations are all supported by council's Auckland Design Office.

We know events are good for business - they encourage visitation and spend and add to the buzz of a vibrant city centre. Fashion Week in particular helps to strengthen perceptions of the city centre as a key fashion destination and heroes many of our retailers - we're looking forward to seeing them put their best foot forward on the runway and out on the streets.
