Six metre festive bauble welcomes Aucklanders back to city centre shopping this week

Press release
Wednesday 10 Nov 2021

Heart of the City has been busy preparing the city centre for shoppers to return to the city this week, and there’s more than just a hint of festive to go with the much-awaited retail therapy.

What’s possibly New Zealand’s biggest bauble is standing six metres tall and six and a half metres wide in one of the city’s newest spaces Te Komititanga. It’s joined with a unique Angus Muir light forest, along with temporary public artworks (part of Artweek 2021) installed throughout the city’s laneways until 14 November, making for a beautiful outdoor backdrop to a special shopping experience.

Viv Beck Chief Executive says “We can’t wait to welcome Aucklanders into the city centre this week to go shopping again and we’ve made sure there is something uplifting to come back to. We’ve revealed a new six-metre-high bauble and created a light forest in downtown Auckland that is bound to delight young and old.”

Beck says that “Smith and Caughey’s new Christmas windows will also entice shoppers as they return. There are plenty more reasons for people to visit after nearly three months of not being able to set foot inside their favourite stores, with some retailers putting on special offers, and $5000 worth of vouchers being given away at Commercial Bay this weekend.”
