News story
Wednesday 17 Mar 2010
The redevelopment, which is due to be completed in October 2010, will boost the stadium from 48,000 to 60,000-seat capacity to give spectators a world-class experience in 2011.
Features include:
A new three-tier, 22,000-seat south stand with 52 corporate boxes
A new two-tier east stand (replacing the eastern terraces) with 8600-seat capacity
An extension of the ASB Stand with 2000-seat lower bowl (replacing the Panasonic Stand)
Public concourses in the east and west of the stadium connecting all stands with the transport centre, and providing access to Kingsland railway station via Walters Road
A transport hub in the south-west of the park with 12 bus parks for drop-off and pick-up
A series of huge silver fern structural design features will be added to the exterior of the stand. The exterior will also use ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene), which transmits more light than glass or plastic. It was used in the roof of the iconic Water Cube swimming centre at the Beijing Olympics.
