News story
Monday 2 Nov 2009
Art aficionados, get ready – Auckland Art Gallery is giving Aucklanders the exclusive chance to view five art works from master painters like Dali and Picasso for free, for the first time ever, and for one week only.
In May this year, Julian and Josie Robertson gifted a vast collection of works to the Auckland Art Gallery Foundation. The selection on offer is an exclusive preview of the complete collection.
The five featured works are:
  • Mère aux enfants a l'orange (1951) by Pablo Picasso (pictured left)
  • La tasse (1911) by George Braque
  • Espagnole (1922) by Henry Matisse
  • Paysage à l'Estaque (1906) by André Derain
  • Instrument masochiste (1933-34) by Salvador Dali.
These will be on display between Saturday, 7 and Friday, 13 November at the Auckland Art Gallery, corner Wellesley and Lorne streets. This follows from a mayoral lunch at the Auckland Town Hall on Friday, 6 November where Mayor of Auckland city, Hon. John Banks will officially thank the Robertsons for their gift.
Don't miss out on this exclusive chance to see these important art works in person.
