Free public transport during Rugby World Cup 2011

Auckland Rugby World Cup ticketholders will be able to enjoy free public transport to and from all Rugby World Cup matches in Auckland. The aim is encourage up to 75% people to not use their cars and use public transport to and from games. The free public transport scheme will mean fans will be able to board transport options more efficiently and will be able to get to and from the games quicker.

The free public transport scheme is being backed by a comprehensive upgrade to Auckland’s transport options. Of the 60,000 fans expected to pack Eden Park for the Tournament's biggest matches, the majority will travel by train, bus or coach.

  • 15,000 passengers will be moved by rail between Kingsland and Britomart. One train will run every five minutes over a seventy minute time frame.
  • 84 buses will transport up to 7000 fans to Eden Park.
  • 3,000 people will be moved by taxi.

Completion of Eden Park Transport Plan

Detailed planning is also complete for the transport and traffic operations for Eden Park and the surrounding areas during RWC 2011. The Eden Park Transport Management plan will restrict access to Eden Park and the surrounding areas to ensure safety and encourage fans to travel to the games via public transport.
