Accommodation
The RWC 2011 Official Accommodation Bank (OAB) was established in 2008 to deal with accommodation during the tournament. Currently the OAB has the support of more than 300 3-5 star hotels across New Zealand. Their objective is to assist with meeting the needs of the "official" part of the Tournament (i.e. the teams, officials, commercial partners including the official hospitality and travel agencies). A key feature of the OAB offering is that all the OAB hotels have signed up to "minimum-night stay" periods of two nights for the whole Tournament increasing to three only for the very last weekend.
Accommodation pressure points will occur during the last three weekends of the Tournament but, only in the cities and regions hosting the knockout matches.
To supplement land-based accommodation during this final 17-day timeframe, is the use of three RWC-dedicated cruise ships. Two will be based in Wellington and one in Christchurch after which all three will travel northwards and will be based in Auckland for both the semi-final weekend and the Final weekend. This will add 5,500 beds into the Rugby World Cup accommodation mix.
