In an effort to encourage businesses to get involved with Earth Hour, Heart of the City along with the Auckland City Council has organised the Auckland City Ambassadors to hand out a free energy efficient light bulb and information pack to all CBD businesses.

Heart of the City is encouraging CBD businesses to put their bulbs in and see how they stack up against regular bulbs. On average a normal light bulb will last 1000 hours where as energy efficient bulbs will last between 5,000 to 10,000 hours. Little things such as replacing normal light bulbs with energy efficient ones can make a huge difference to not only your electricity bill but the environment as well.

Earth Hour is worldwide initiative run by WWF which encourages people to turn out their lights for one hour. This year the event is being held on Saturday, 28 March from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. It is hoped that this year over one billion people and businesses will participate in Earth Hour. Landmarks around Auckland such as the Sky Tower and Auckland Domain fountain will be taking part in the event.
