  • Free Independent Travellers (FITs): 55,000
  • Visitors through the official travel programme: 30,000+
  • Almost 50% of Free Independent Travellers (those not with an official package) will arrive before the opening match
  • Average length of stay: 23 days
  • 44% will be visiting New Zealand for the first time
  • Top visitor sources: Australia, UK, Ireland, France, South Africa, USA, Canada
  • 50% of domestic ticket purchasers will travel outside of their home region at least once
  • 57% of international purchasers and 45% of domestic purchasers expect to buy more tickets.
  • Almost half will arrive before the opening match. The average planned length of visit for the FITs is 23 days

  • Actively seek out truly New Zealand experiences
  • Have high expectations of quality & service & be prepared to pay more for it
  • Enjoy cultural experiences, especially Maori culture
  • Be interested in sites of historic interest and historic buildings
  • Enjoy adventure activities
  • Eat out a lot, covering everything from snacks to fine dining
  • Visit bars, pubs, clubs
  • Appreciate high-quality, New Zealand-made souvenirs
