The transforming city

Auckland’s city centre is going through a period of rapid transformational change, with substantial investment committed to the area by both the public sector and private developers.

By the time the America’s Cup and APEC take place here in 2021, a number of these highlight projects - including Commercial Bay, SkyPath, the NZ International Convention Centre and the new lower Queen Street square - will be open to the public.

When the City Rail Link starts operating in 2024, it will transform access to the city centre, carrying an estimated 54,000 peak-time passengers each hour and doubling the number of people within a 30-minute commute of the city centre.

This map shows many of Auckland's private and public development projects, including the City Rail Link.

This video shows the breadth of the development planned – from the new CRL stations, a transformed Quay Street and other waterfront spaces set to be completed by 2021, as well as longer term opportunities such as upgrades to High Street, Hobson and Nelson Streets.
