Proposed High Street Road Closure for Late Night Christmas

News story
Monday 3 Dec 2018

Thursday 20 December – event 5 – 9pm, closure 3.30 – 9.30pm

We'd like to support businesses participating in Late Night Christmas on Thursday 20 December by opening up High Street to people for the night, with a proposed closure to High Street for vehicles. A new event this year supported by a marketing campaign, Late Night Christmas is a free street festival with over 70 performances and more than 90 stores open late - over 30 of these in the High Street District.

Similar to what happened for the Drums of Fire performance in March for Auckland Arts Festival/Four Days of Fashion, opening up the street would allow people to move more freely around participating stores and the live entertainment, and give a point of difference to the High Street District for the night of Late Night Christmas.

We've given thought to how loading and rubbish will work with a closure, and we're promoting the $2 off peak parking offer in the Victoria Street Carpark. If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with us by 5pm this Friday.

Times:
Event: 5pm – 9pm
Road closed to vehicles: 3.30pm – 9.30pm (cars will be unable to enter High St from 3.30pm, but existing parked vehicles will be able to leave the closure area)

Location:
The proposal is for High Street to be closed from Shortland Street to Victoria Street East.

Rubbish:
If the closure goes ahead, we would arrange a special rubbish collection service to come through at 5pm so the street is clear for the event.

Loading:
Loading spaces are available on Shortland Street and Chancery Street.

Parking:
Cars will be unable to enter High St from 3.30pm, but existing parked vehicles will be able to leave the closure area. We're promoting the $2 off peak parking offer in the Victoria Street Carpark.

If you have any concerns or specific access requirements during the proposed closure:
Please contact Sarah Hamilton-Hibbard by 5pm this Friday 7 December on (09) 379 8000 or sarahh@hotcity.co.nz
