This year we’re adding a new Christmas occasion to the city’s calendar and supporting the 24/7 economy with our new Late Night Christmas event. It’s encouraging people to do their gift shopping in the city centre in a festive and fun environment and giving them more time to do it – and responding to the growing demand for night time experiences in the city centre.

Late Night Shopping

Over 90 stores around Queen Street, Britomart and the High Street District will be open late – with 70 of them until 9pm – offering shoppers wide-ranging gift inspiration.

Free Christmas street festival

The streets will be alive with over 25 performers and 70 performances, like the visually spectacular classical/pop/genre-defying Blackbird Ensemble, K-Pop dance party-starters Rina Chae and Street Candee, stilt-walking Dust Palace circus artists and the one and only Auckland Street Choir – and many more.

A great city night time environment

Bars and restaurants will be buzzing with week-before-Christmas good cheer and there will be food festivals in the street at opposite ends of town – Street Kai on Takutai in Britomart and SKYCITY Christmas Wonderland in Federal Street.

Getting here

See at.govt.nz for bus, train and ferry schedules, or parking is only $2 per hour after 6pm in Auckland Transport’s Downtown and Victoria Street car parks.
