Bledisloe Cup Fan Trail
Information for businesses and residents along Auckland’s Fan Trail
Due to the huge success of the fan trial during the 2011 Rugby World Cup, Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) are running a fan trial to the Bledisloe Cup game this Saturday 26 August.
The trail will follow the same route as it did for the World Cup, with its start point in Queen Elizabeth Square, leading up through the city centre to Eden Park via Queen Street, Aotea
Square, Myers Park, K’Road, Great North Road, Bond Street, Sandringham Road and
Wairepo Swamp Walk.
The Fan Trail will again have entertainment and food and beverage stops along the way to encourage fans to walk to the stadium as an alternative means of transport. Others without match tickets are also expected to join in to experience the occasion.
Activation will again be on the footpath on the right hand side of the road only (heading towards the stadium) and includes live performances, roving entertainers, face painting, refreshment stops and unique, lighting installations in Myers Park. Although not activated after matches, the Fan Trail will also be a safe walking route for people to return to the city centre, as security will be in place for approximately two hours after matches.
Given the popularity of previous fan trails this will mean several thousand extra pairs of feet walking past your property on match days. Fans are encouraged to take about two hours to walk the route comfortably and enjoy all the activities along the way. The trail will be active from 4.00pm to 7.35pm on the day of the match and will be alcohol-free.
To make sure that all fans and others walking the route have a great time doing so, there will be security patrols for extra safety, helpful volunteers and Police supporting the event. There’ll also be additional temporary amenities, such as toilets and special cleaning and rubbish collection crews.
