News story
Thursday 19 Nov 2009
It's all happening in Auckland City this Christmas and to keep you informed below is a summary of everything we have planned. For more details our Christmas website will be live from 23 November, 2009 visit http://www.biglittlecity.co.nz/
Farmers Santa on Whitcoulls Corner, BIG Reveal
Buoyed by rousing endorsement from the public of Auckland, a refreshed and revitalised Farmers Santa has made his much anticipated return to his perch on the Whitcoulls corner. The city's iconic and much loved Father Christmas has been under the knife since you last saw him but is now in place high on his perch.
After months of plastic surgery at a secret Auckland location, Santa and some yet-to-be-identified helpers are soon to be unveiled. The reveal is scheduled to take place on November 22nd at 1:30pm with some drama and entertainment including the official unveiling of the bandages which will be performed by 2 aerial dancers at approximately 1.55pm.
Decorations
Christmas decorations have started going up around the city. KZ1 at the Maritime Museum has its Christmas tree display of baubles and lights. The High Street lights are up. This week will see the 3 giant baubles installed at QEII Square and the bottom of Vulcan Lane, The Durham Lights and doves make a comeback and the Queen Street banners and spirals and lights on the Nikaus will be completed. Keep an eye out also for the angels in Elliott Street and K Rd.
Street Entertainment
This year local and international artists have been brought together by THE EDGE to create a uniquely Auckland blend of vibrant street performances for Christmas in the BIG little city. Watch out for these random acts of Christmas appearing on street corners and tops of much-loved buildings in and around Queen Street from noon Saturday December 19th until Christmas Eve.
Late Night trading hours
